Reincarnated With (In)Finite Power Side Story: The Melancholy of Thanos The Mad Titan

Author’s Note: Bonus side story, enjoy 😀

“Aww, c’mon!”

I mashed the buttons on my controller before chucking it at the TV.

“Meta Knight is the worst! I’m never playing him again!” I yelled.

I sigh and sit back onto the couch.

Aside from the high quality gaming setup, the room was a mess. There were beer cans everywhere, the video game posters on the walls were torn, and the bed was unmade.

After balancing the universe, I was content with just watching the sunrise over a not-so grateful universe from my hut, but that got boring after a while, so I turned to video games and the internet for entertainment. It’s been like this for quite some time now.

Frustrated with my current situation, I slammed my fist down on the floor and demolished the room I was in.

I no longer have a purpose…

I used to be Thanos The Mad Titan, but now I’m no different than some NEET living in their mother’s basement. If my fallen comrades and foes saw me as I am now, they would be rolling in their graves. Still, I accomplished everything I set out to do, so what else is there to achieve?

I recreate the room I was just in. It was completely restored to the way it was before, except now the room was clean. There was really nothing I could do about my current situation, so I continued with this pitiful lifestyle.

“*Sigh, another day”, I said dejectedly.

Instead of playing another game I was bad at, I decided to look over to see how humanity was doing. They were the race that gave me the most trouble during my crusade, so naturally I was curious to see how they were coping with the balanced universe.

“Let’s see…crime…war…more crime…jeez, why didn’t that Trump guy get erased?”

I scanned through the multiverse hoping to find one decent iteration of humanity. Not a single one was found. The results were the same as the last time I checked. I guess creating chaos was just in their nature.

I was about to go back to my endless loop of gaming, when suddenly something caught my eye. In a universe where my exploits have been documented as film, one boy was waiting patiently in line to see said film. What was special about him was that he, out of the infinite iterations of humanity, was someone living a more pitiful life than I was. As I looked back at his life so far, slowly I felt more and more content about my own life. This feeling of joy was so alien to me after having felt nothing but boredom for millenia.

I spent the next few days looking over the rest of the boy’s pathetic life. Bullying, isolation, neglect, I enjoyed it all. He had no noteworthy qualities and, as a result was shunned by society. His parents utterly gave up on him, letting him feed off of their income like a parasite. Worst of all, he spent his days indulging in mindless media, ignorant to all the problems in his life. I couldn’t help but burst out in laughter seeing such a miserable existence.

When it was his time to pass on, I couldn’t help but feel depressed. The fun was just beginning, after all.

Alas, all good things must come to an end…or does it?

An idea popped into my head.

The higher ups might get mad at me if I do this, but not if I keep it Loki. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I decided to reincarnate the boy into another universe. He seems to also be into that isekai shit so a fantasy world would do.

He’s probably gonna ask for some cheat power…I wonder what I should give him?

The first thing that came to mind was the Infinity Gauntlet, but that’s mine so giving it away is a big no-no. A knock-off version would suffice, but the Infinity Stones are incredibly complex objects, so much so that even knock-offs would take far too long to create myself.

There has to be one that already exists, right?

With that thought, I scrounged the multiverse for a knock-off Infinity Gauntlet, and sure enough, one exists. However, there was one thing about it that puzzled me.

“Why the fuck is it on eBay?”
