German sausages are the best in the world! But it's not Germany.

It seems like I've come to another world, but what should I do? - Chapter 12

The rooster's crow echoed as I woke up with the dawn. Looking at the clock, it was around 5:30 AM. I felt healthier day by day.

Ah, right. For the first time, I experienced a toilet in a civilian house, but it was a bench-style one. Honestly, for someone like me who's a bit overweight, squatting toilets like traditional Japanese ones make my stomach ache and feel like I might tip over backward.

Despite not being made of ceramic, it was a type where water was drawn into a bucket from a hole in the bottom, which had been carved and polished out of stone. The seat was a wooden U-shaped board. There was no toilet paper, but you washed with water from a hand basin and wiped with cloth, which each person washed themselves. You had to fetch water for the basin every time. After use, you dropped straw into the hole to promote fermentation and prevent odors. I really appreciate whoever invented this.

Also, regarding laundry, they used the berries of the mukuroji tree. Like yesterday's pepper, I have no idea about the local flora. When I asked Teisha, she said both could be found in the southern forest. Yesterday's herbs were also from the southern forest, it seems. In detail, it's because of the blessings of the deity who oversees plants that such diverse flora grows here. It really feels like a god is influencing things here. Another world is something to be feared. Plus, I'm sure this whole thing has the vibe of a gardening game.

I listened to all this while eating breakfast.

Breakfast was rye bread—no, more accurately, Roggenbrot. Since it had a strong sour taste, I spread lard on it before eating. Then there was Weisswurst and pickled cabbage. The smoked sausage was apparently for sale. And since it wasn't sauerkraut, it didn't contain spices. I think caraway and dill grow in the southern forest too; maybe I'll look for them next time. I haven't seen them growing myself, but I can probably figure it out by looking up an encyclopedia app on my phone. In a way, the breakfast felt very German from the start.

Also, when I mentioned wanting to find work, there was something available: the Adventurer's Guild. Typical for another world. Though it wasn't just about monster hunting; it seemed more like a versatile job center, similar to a job placement office.

That's because, in a medieval-like setting, guilds exist based on different skills, and this one fills in the gaps. For example, there's a pharmacists' guild that handles medicine production and sales. However, they outsource material gathering to the Adventurer's Guild. Large caravans or nobles hire mercenary guilds for protection, but smaller caravans or individuals commission the Adventurer's Guild. Monsters do exist, so they also accept requests to hunt them down for their materials.

"Alright, I have some time before the guild opens, so maybe I'll make a TODO list."

As someone who works with lists, I can't feel secure without one.

"First, to get out of this sojourn state, I need to ensure I have enough funds to afford lodging."

[ ] Confirm currency value
[ ] Check inn rates
[ ] Investigate the difficulty and rewards of various requests

"To effectively use acquisition sensei, I want to actively take on monster hunting quests. If I'm not strong, I can't protect Rizatia."

[ ] Prioritize taking on monster hunting quests.
[ ] Work to maximize skill transfer efficiency through acquisition.

"Since we have 'Perception' sensei, there might be an advantage in gathering. Let's actively take on gathering requests too."

[ ] Check gathering requests
[ ] Confirm methods for locating materials
[ ] Work to maximize gathering efficiency using 'Perception.'

For now, today's goals are these eight points.

As I register them into my TODO list app on my phone, I sense someone at the entrance. Is Ast going hunting? I'll go say goodbye.

"Ast, are you leaving?"

"Yeah. I'm planning to set traps and hunt for small game. Rizatia is with me, so there's no need to worry."

"Is your back okay?"

"It was almost fully healed yesterday. Moving around now won't be a problem."

Ast smiles as he picks up his belongings and waves.

"Akihiro, I'm off. Don't overdo it, alright?"

Rizatia looks at me with a worried expression.

"For now, it's just scouting, so there's no need to worry."

I smile back and wave goodbye. As I watch the two leave, I check my phone—it's 7:30 AM. It's about time the guild opens, so I'll start getting ready.

Regarding clothing, Rizatia has agreed to fix up some of her brother’s clothes for me to borrow. She only has to adjust the waist and hem of the pants, which was a bit sad. The suit miraculously didn't get any blood on it. However, there were splatters on the cuffs of my undershirt, so I washed them thoroughly.

Alright, let's tackle today with energy!
